Programs
CBS currently provides a wide range of services to all persons who are blind or vision impaired, regardless of age.
Most cases of blindness or vision impairment now occur during middle age and onwards, where the persons working life has come to an end, the children have left home or perhaps a spouse died. Loss of vision causes a natural response of grief where, without proper support, the person may become dependent, or house bound.
CBS believes that with training and support, people who are blind or vision impaired can maintain their independence within their community. CBS actively promotes the continuation of an independent, active and healthy lifestyle through regular programs held at the Griffin Centre, Genge Street, Canberra City.

Weekly Exercise Classes
Commencing February 2025 until June 2025
Every Thursday, 1:30-2:30, CBS Offices.
CBS will commence weekly exercise classes from February 2025. These sessions give our clients who have vision impairment a chance to engage in regular exercise within a safe and supportive environment, promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging them to continue these activities within the broader community.
The physical, mental and social health and independence of adults who are blind in the ACT is one of CBS’S main priorities.
This program offers a range of modified exercise with the aim to allow individuals to:
- Experience the benefits of physical and social activity, available to the general community
- Create social networks
- Develop links with community sporting groups
- Reduce the negative mental health impact of exclusion caused by low vision or blindness
